RockYard Brewing Co Buddha Nuvo

14 breweries came together and made Buddha Nuvo Pumpkin Saison

While this beer did come out in August I thought it worth mentioning since craft beer spots will still have some on their shelves come September. RockYard Brewing Co. and Trinity Brewing Co. came together to make a Pumpkin Saison. They however went a step further and invited 12 other breweries to join in on the fun. This is a 14 brewery collaboration to make a one of a kind beer, Buddha Nuvo.

Before I bought the bottle I was skeptical. It runs $40 dollars on any given shelf. I’m used to paying those prices for a fine wine but the breweries mentioned didn’t sway me enough to be real excited about dropping the money on a one of a kind beer. However the money was burning a whole in my pocket, I nearly broke my arm twisting it till I said mercy, and next thing you know I’m sipping on one of the finest hidden gems for summer. The best news? You can age this beer for years and being how it won’t be made again that might be a good idea.

Buddha Nuvo is not like any beer on the market. There are flavors reminiscent of fresh-squeezed orange layered with Captain Crunch cereal that’s dancing around a wild horse blanket of funk from the barrel aging and Brettanomyces. This truly is a one of a kind beer with so much going on it’s nearly impossible to simply layout a blue print of its’ flavor.

The category of Saison is as broad of a category as one can have. If you use Saison yeast it’s a Saison. Makes it hard to narrow down exactly what you’re looking for in a beer. Buddha Nuvo doesn’t fit the style of Saison, in fact it surpasses it. If your looking for a bottle of Saison this isn’t for you. If your looking for something so different than anything on the market, Saison or not, this is for you. Here’s a bit of background on the beer itself.

Brewed at Trinity Brewing, Colorado Springs, with the help of RockYard Brewing. AC Golden supplied multiple strands of Brettanomyces, Crooked Stave offered American Oak Chardonnay barrels for aging, and everyone else pitched in a hand frrom coming up with gallons of pumpkins, hands of buddha, and sanitization.
